There’s a quiet, nagging voice that sometimes whispers in your moments of stillness - the voice of self-doubt. It questions your value, magnifies your mistakes, and compares your journey to everyone else’s seemingly perfect highlight reel. It asks, Am I really good enough? Do I truly belong here? Am I worthy of the dreams I hold in my heart?
If that voice sounds familiar, I want you to know that you are not alone. This struggle is one of the most common and painful battles we face. It can paralyze us, keeping us from taking risks, pursuing our passions, and stepping into the fullness of the life we were created to live.
But what if I told you that your worth is not up for debate? What if your value isn’t based on your performance, your accomplishments, or other people’s opinions? What if lack of self-confidence is a trick of the enemy?
In my book, Progress Toward Purpose, the principle of Self-Esteem: Know Your Worth is the bedrock upon which all other progress is built. You cannot build a purposeful life on a foundation of self-doubt. If you can’t look yourself in the eye and be impressed with the person God created you to be, you will always hold yourself back.
The world is noisy, and it will try to define you. It will label you, categorize you, and tell you where you fall short. But the world didn’t create you. God did. And His opinion is the only one that truly matters. The Bible tells us in Psalm 139 that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Think about that for a moment. You are not an accident or an afterthought. You are a deliberate, intricate, and wonderful creation, designed by the Master Artist Himself.
In the Progress Toward Purpose Devotional, we spend time meditating on this truth. We learn to see ourselves through God’s eyes, not as flawed and failing, but as chosen, cherished, and called. God doesn’t just tolerate you; He designed you and He delights in you! You are His unique prize.
I remember coaching a brilliant young man who was terrified of speaking up in meetings at his job. He had incredible ideas, but the fear of saying the wrong thing kept him silent. He felt like an imposter, like he didn’t belong in the room. We worked together, not just on public speaking techniques, but on the root issue: his belief that he wasn’t worthy of being heard. We prayed together, and he began a daily practice of speaking scripture over his life, reminding himself of who God said he was. Slowly but surely, his confidence began to grow. He started sharing his ideas, and his career began to flourish. But more importantly, he started to walk with his head held high, not because of his success at work, but because he finally believed he was worthy.
Your journey to self-confidence is not about arrogance or pride. It’s about a quiet, unshakeable belief in the value that God has already placed within you. It’s about giving yourself a break, offering yourself the same grace and compassion that you freely give to others.
What is one thing you can do today to honor the person God created you to be? Can you look in the mirror and say, I am fearfully and wonderfully made? Can you write down one thing you are proud of?
Your progress toward purpose depends on your ability to see yourself as God sees you. If you’re ready to silence the voice of self-doubt and step into the confident, purposeful life that is waiting for you, I invite you to join us. The Progress Toward Purpose pathway is a journey of discovering your true worth and building a life that reflects it.
