Does God Speak Your Language? Experiencing His Love for You Your Way

Updated: Jan 5

Have you ever thought about how you best receive love? For some, it’s through words of affirmation—hearing someone say “I’m proud of you.” For others, it’s through acts of service, quality time, receiving gifts, or physical touch. We call these “love languages”, the unique ways we each feel most seen, valued, and cherished.

But have you ever stopped to ask, “What is God’s love language for me?”

This is a question that can transform your entire relationship with Him. I want you to know a profound and beautiful truth: the God who created you, the one who knows every hair on your head, will not speak His love for you in a foreign tongue. He will meet you right where you are and speak to you in the language your heart understands best. The real question is, are you open to hearing Him?

So often, we look for God in the thunder and the earthquake, in the grand, dramatic moments. But what if He is also in the still, small voice? What if He is speaking to you every single day, in ways that are perfectly tailored to you?

In Progress Toward Purpose, the Principle of Spirituality-The Answer to it All provides a cornerstone for our journey. It’s about cultivating a deep, personal, and dynamic relationship with God. This isn’t about religion or rules; it’s about connection. It’s about learning to recognize His voice and His presence in your daily life.

If your love language is Words of Affirmation, maybe God is speaking to you through a specific passage of scripture that seems to leap off the page and settle right into your spirit. Maybe it’s the encouraging word from a friend that comes at the exact moment you need it.

If your love language is Quality Time, perhaps God is inviting you into moments of quiet prayer and meditation, away from the noise of the world. Maybe He meets you on a long walk in nature, where you can simply be in His presence.

If it’s Acts of Service, you might see God’s love when someone unexpectedly helps you with a task, or when an opportunity opens up that you know you didn’t earn on your own.

If you feel loved through Receiving Gifts, you may recognize God’s love in the beauty of a sunset, the provision for a need you didn’t even speak aloud, or the simple moments of unexpected joy that bless your day.

And if your love language is Physical Touch, you might feel God’s embrace in the comforting hug of a loved one or a profound sense of peace that washes over you during worship.

This is also deeply connected to our principle of Relationships-Seek Wise Counsel. The people God places in our lives are often the very vessels through which He shares His love to us. He uses our friends, our family, and our mentors to deliver His messages of hope, guidance, and affection.

I want to encourage you today to open your heart and your spiritual ears. Ask God, ‘“How are you speaking to me? Show me Your love in the language I understand.’“ And then, listen. Watch. Be expectant.

In the Progress Toward Purpose devotional and community, we dive deep into this. We learn to identify the unique ways God communicates with each of us, creating a faith that is not distant and abstract, but intimate, personal, and alive.

Your journey to purpose is fueled by the assurance that you are deeply and personally loved by your Creator. Are you ready to listen and experience that love in a whole new way?
