I want to speak to you today—directly to your heart. I want to engage the part of you that might feel like you don’t quite fit in—the unique things about you, your physical traits, the way your mind works, your emotional depth, your identity, your spiritual questions. Whatever is making you feel that you are somehow wrong or unacceptable or like you simply don’t belong. I want you to hear me clearly: You do belong here.
The world can be a harsh and unforgiving place when it comes to differences. It often presents norms, demands conformity and assimilation, and tries to press us all into the same mold. But guess what—your identity is not a problem to be solved, but a gift to be explored and celebrated.
In my book, Progress Toward Purpose, we explore the powerful truth that you were created with a divine and specific purpose. And the identity you carry “in all of its multifaceted glory ”is not an obstacle to that purpose. It is the very vehicle through which you will live it out. God did not make a mistake when He made you. Every aspect of your being was intentionally and lovingly crafted.
The principle of Know Your Worth is not just about feeling good about yourself; it’s about understanding that your worth is inherent and unchangeable because it comes from your Creator. When you begin to see yourself through His eyes, the devaluing words and actions of others start to lose their power.
I know this is easier said than done. It hurts to be misunderstood. It’s painful to feel like you have to hide parts of yourself to be accepted. But I want to challenge you with a thought: What if the very things you’ve been told are “too much” or “not enough” are actually your superpowers in disguise? What if your unique perspective is exactly what the world needs?
In the Progress Toward Purpose Devotional, we reflect on the scripture from 1 Peter 2:9 that calls us a “peculiar people”. I love that word. It’s not an insult; it’s a declaration of distinction. You were not made to be a copy. You were made to be an original. And in the family of God, your originality is your badge of honor.
I have had the privilege of coaching many individuals who have felt marginalized because of their identity. I think of a young artist who was told her style was too unconventional, a sensitive man who was told he was too emotional, a woman who was told her questions about faith were too challenging. For each of them, the journey to purpose began when they stopped trying to silence the unique parts of themselves and started to see them as God-given strengths. The artist’s unconventional style became a powerful voice for justice. The man’s emotional depth allowed him to connect with and heal others. The woman’s challenging questions led her to a deeper, more authentic faith than she had ever known.
So, I ask you today, what part of your unique identity have you been hiding, fearing, or crushing? What aspect of yourself have you been afraid to fully embrace? I want to encourage you to bring that part of yourself into the light. Offer it to God in prayer. Ask Him to show you how He wants to use it for His glory.
You don’t have to walk this journey alone. The Progress Toward Purpose community is a place where “all of you” is welcome. It’s a place to heal, to grow, and to be celebrated for exactly who you are. If you’re ready to stop hiding and start living in the full, beautiful truth of your identity, I invite you to join us. Your purpose is waiting.
